My Betta named Jac always rests near the heater.
Is that normal at 26c.
He is in a smallish tank that is a normal tank for a betta, I’ve been told and very active. I just love him.
He has a hidey place, has real plants and artificial plants.
After a number of weeks, I have finally got his checks to be normal. Talk about visiting the Aquarium shop many times as I’m a first time Betta owner.

I’m sure your betta rests when you’re sleeping and you just don’t know it. The flaring is normal when you get close to their tank as that’s their habitat and they are acting territorial. When classical music is on – that’s funny – must not be your bettas preference in music.

I just got my little guy and I am a very paranoid fish mom, so how much sleep should my fish be getting/how long should i have lights off for?

Thank you for posting this information about sleeping fish! I’m fish-sitting my 6 year old nephews fish and nearly hard a heart attack when I saw it laying on the bottom of the tank.

In reply to Courtney. You don’t need them, but they are good for exercising male bettas so they flare, and it might encourage them to build a bubble nest. However, do not use it for more than 3-5 minutes a day because it will stress your betta.

Please, please answer this!! My betta fish seems to “sleep” during the day when the light is turned on, only swimming when I come over. Is this okay? I feed him 5 pellets once a day, sometimes 6 and he is in a 2.5 gallon tank with plants. Is there anything I can do.
